{Living the Crazy Life}

Well, here we are. Almost three weeks in from the first day of school. I’m feeling ALL the feels as I now have a first grader. Most of the time, I feel like I don’t have it together at all these days. I’m guessing it’s a fairly normal feeling coming off from summer, vacations, lots of family time and lots of down time. I’m learning how to better manage my time between running my own business, coaching high school cheerleading, being a SAHM to my three year old son, getting my six year old daughter to her cheer practice and games, school work,  being a connected and loving wife to my wonderful husband, taking care of the house…oh! and our new puppy…it’s a lot. Most days I feel like I’m just going through the motions. The saying that the days are long but the years are short couldn’t be more true during this season of life. Believe me when I say I wouldn’t change a thing. I wouldn’t. Ever. I’ve learned that I’m going to be in a permanent stage of exhaustion for the next several years and that’s okay. Who needs sleep anyways these days, right?

All that put aside, I’m so grateful for all of YOU. The ones that support my business and have watched it grow. Every month gets better and better. I’m so thankful. We’re actually coming up to our one year anniversary. One whole year! I can hardly believe it myself. Thank you for believing in me and SMT. All my love to all of you.

If you’re local, please come hang with me this weekend as we’re having a Sip & Shop with another local entrepreneur. We’ll be eating, drinking and shopping! It doesn’t get much better than that! I sincerely hope to see you there. Just message/email me for the address.

xoxo, Lauren

{Please Slow Down Summertime}

Am I the only mom wishing that summer would just slow down? I think about it almost every day. The days are flying by and before I know it I’ll have a first grader and my youngest will begin preschool. I had so many things that I wanted to do this summer and I feel like I’m running out of time to do them all.  Being a SAHM, I’m with my kids almost 24/7. I don’t know if you all know, but I also coach high school cheerleading. I leave Monday for cheerleading camp with the girls. I don’t return until Thursday. My anxiety is through the roof. I’m excited to go but I also have huge mom guilt. It’s another week automatically gone with time spent with my kids this summer. A summer that is going by too fast for this Momma.

{My Wish for You}

Being a mother and creating two absolutely perfect tiny humans has been my greatest accomplishment in life thus far. My children are my everything. There is nothing in this world that I would not do for either of them. And, I’m sure most of you can relate. As beautiful as it is to be a mother, it is also downright terrifying. Am I doing this right? Could I be doing this better? I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t have said that the way that I did. I’ve only been a mom for six years and only a mother to two kids for three years, but in these short six years they sure have put life into perspective. I want my children to live the happiest most fulfilling lives. Here are just 5 of the wishes I have for my littles.

  1. Be true to Yourself. There will be people in life who like you. There will be people who love you. There will also be people who don’t like you and are mean to you. The people who like and love you may try to imitate you. That’s okay. You still be you. Take that as a compliment. The people who are mean to you…ignore them. There’s a reason they are being mean to you and it’s not you. Stand up for yourself when necessary. Choose kindness whenever you can.  Kindness will always win.
  2. Find Your Passion. Do what you love. Find things that make YOU happy. Don’t do things just because others are doing them too. Find your passion in life. Mommy and Daddy will be proud of you no matter what career path you choose. We will be most proud that you found your purpose.
  3. Know How Proud You Make Me. I wish that you always know how proud you make me. Even in the every day little things that you do. Pouring yourself a cup of water. Putting your tee shirt on all by yourself. Putting your dirty dishes in the sink. Riding your bike. You make me proud every single day.
  4. Be Loyal. To your family. To your friends. To your acquaintances. Be honest about your thoughts and feelings. The right people will always appreciate this.
  5. Call Me Whenever You Want. Any time of day or night. I’m here for you. Always. I want to know about your happy moments and your sad moments. I’ll always want to pick up the phone to call you when you’re away, but I’ll do my best not to.

This list could go on and on and I may even continue it down the road. But, for now, it’s late and I need to be closing these tired mom eyes. Good night!

{Our Top 5 Spring Activity Ideas for Littles}

It’s Spring…finally! I think it’s safe to say that the warm weather is here to stay! Amen!

So, as the sun is shining and the skies are blue, here are 5 of our favorite activities to do this time of year.

  1. Zoo! After the long and cold winter months I’m not sure there is anything more that I look forward to than that first zoo trip in the spring. Thankfully, we had our first visit last week and it felt SO good to be out, seeing all of the animals and breathing in that fresh zoo smell.
  2. Parks! In our smallish community, we are so lucky to have several beautiful parks to visit with some pretty cool playgrounds. And, with all of the elementary schools, we love visiting their playgrounds on the weekends too! Check out your city’s website and I’m sure you’ll find all of the amazing parks in your community!
  3. Nature Walks/Hikes! It’s amazing to learn of all the trails within miles of us that we are able to explore with our littles. Add a scavenger hunt into the mix and your kiddos will have a blast! We even love having these “nature walks” on our property. The kids love searching for cool leaves, rocks and flowers.
  4. Franklin Park Conservatory! This one is Columbus-specific but we are so lucky to have such a cool place to visit to see so many beautiful flowers, plants and so much. This time of year is their beautiful Blooms & Butterflies Exhibit too that we’ve been visiting year-after-year. Going now, you can also check out all of the tulips on its grounds. Check out for more information.
  5. Reservoir! So, in our community we have a pretty awesome reservoir to visit. It’s 171 acres! We love to grab the double stroller and take both kiddos on a walk around the gorgeous water. They ride in it for some of the time and walk too! Not only are we getting outside but our family is getting to exercise together. At the reservoir, you can boat, fish, kayak, sled in the winter, pack a picnic lunch or take a nice walk. You can learn more here,

We’d love for you to share more ideas of what your family enjoys doing in the spring time by posting it in the comments below!

{You’ve Got This Mama Bear}

As moms, when do we ever feel like we’re not stretched too thin? Do we? EVER?? It doesn’t matter whether you’re a full-time working mom, part-time working mom or stay-at-home mom; there are never enough hours in the day and we’re always going 100mph in every direction with every kid.

I was tested these past two weeks. Big time. My (hard-working) husband travels for work. Not often, but he does. He spent last week in Cleveland, Ohio and this week in Portland, Maine. He was home in between his two trips for a day and half. These have been the longest two weeks I have had in  a long time.

While he was traveling, and in my mind, enjoying some peaceful time away and sleeping in a luxurious hotel bed, I was holding down the fort back at home with a 6 year old and 3 year old. Lord, help me. I recently took a coaching position at our high school that oh so conveniently began the first week he was away. I also was recently involved in a minor car accident that has left me without my car and driving my in-laws car. I’m SO thankful that they are letting me drive their car while mine is getting fixed. But, nonetheless, another kink to our normalcy.  This week, my daughter has had a walking field trip every single day. That’s right. Every. Single. Day. Given my severe degree of mom guilt that I carry with me all the time, I found myself at every single one. Oh, and I had another coaching priority that I had to attend to (which was much needed for some time away from it all).  And, let’s not forget our “normal” every day “things” we do like dance lessons, school drop off and pick up and everything else in between, Plus, lack of sleep due to the fact that I slept with both kiddos every night and that I just don’t sleep well when my hubby isn’t with me.

Thanks to some help from family and friends (and wine!) I got through these two weeks. I found myself crying in the kitchen one time through it all. Just one time. As I’m typing this, I’m thinking of our military families and what they must endure. And, single parents. I seriously don’t know how you do it. It’s funny that as parents we just push through because we have no choice and we wouldn’t do it any differently. We live and breathe for our little ones. We gave them life yet they give us life every day.

This Friday night, I’m more tired than I have been in a long time but my heart is also so full. My husband is home and our family is whole again. My kids are happy to have their Daddy home. He’s given me some quiet time and has been playing with them for hours. I’m so blessed to have a hard working husband that is also a loving husband and amazing Dad to our two beautiful children.

It’s okay to feel stretched too thin at times (or even all the time!). And, as a friend reminded me this week, it’s also okay to ask for help when you need it. It takes a village after all. When you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, just remember that you do have this, Mama Bear. We’re all going through this thing called Motherhood together. It’s not easy but it is so worth it.

{Followed My Heart}

I went from a college graduate to a successful career in “Corporate America” where I traveled the country and made “big money”. I was finding out who I really was and learning more about myself all while meeting new people and exploring new places. Then, I met my husband. Traveling every single week all week became hard. It was difficult to be away from the person I was falling in love with. So, I left corporate America to be “home” with him. I took a big chance, I know. Whether is was the right decision – I don’t know. But, it was the decision that I made. Fast forward a few years and he and I moved to Louisville, Kentucky while he completed his Master’s Degree at the University of Louisville. We soon became engaged and before I knew it we were planning our wedding and finally a move back to Ohio.

I worked several jobs that I loved but I knew once my sweet daughter was born that I wanted nothing more than to stay home with her. I wanted more than anything to be a stay at home mom. My husband wanted it for me too. However, after she was born and after maternity leave quickly ended, I still needed to return to  work.  Luckily, for me, it was a job that I truly loved with people that I love. Fast forward almost three more years and my son was born. I was finally able to stay at home. I felt (and continue to feel) I’m where I’m supposed to be.

After my daughter was born, I, like many mothers, became slightly obsessed with dressing my baby girl. I took note of the brands and designers that I loved. I began following boutiques on social media. I would search online to find the perfect dress or outfit for that special occasion and at the perfect price. It wasn’t until I was searching for my daughter’s dress for her Kindergarten Daddy Daughter Dance that a lightbulb went off. Why not me? Why couldn’t I do this? Why not take a chance? So, I did.

And here I am. Here we are. Sweet Magnolia Threads. I still get to stay at home with my babies and do something that I love. I followed my heart. I hope you find that special piece for your little one here. The one that is just perfect to you for that special occasion.  The one that is going to be perfect for him and/or her.

My plan is to continue to grow this business with the help and support of all of my new and old customers. We will continue to add new items often and encourage you to check back frequently to see what’s been added to the boutique.

Thank you for visiting our site and blog.
